Summary

The ales 204 class has finished. During this semester, I learn many knowledge that I havd never had. Its an interesting  and helpful class.
I did use facebook, but I only use it for chatting have small games for fun. However, I learned that we can use face book to create a professional page which helps our academic studies and careers.
I never used twitter before, ales204 gives me a chance to use twitter. By twittering everyday. I  make friends with many people who are in different field of study. It is very convenient for us to communicate and share ideas by just twitter on our phones and computer.
The most interesting thing is the studying about wikipedia. As a university student, I used wikipedia very ofen for researching infomation. By taking this class, I actually have a chance to edit a stub, which I had never thinked about. I did alots for research about cAMP receptor preotein in order ro give a proper and accurate definition and explanation about it. By doing this, I learned alot of think about it and I feel wikipedia comes closer to me.
Pecha Kucha is also a very important class. It helps me to make ppt in short time. And I learned how to prepare a presentation in short time. There skills of organize language and manage time is very helps. Also as the poster lab, it helps us how to make a preofessional poster, which might be useful in other class.
By the end of the term, we also studied many things about academic and careers. For example, academic emails, personal CV and the skills of give a speech and interview. These are really useful skills and knownledge for me. Now i write emails more professional than before and I have a basic understanding od CV and interview, therefore im not afraid that.
Here are 2 blog post of my friends and they all did very good.
1.  Yuhan write a blog about milk. As a common part of our lives, milk is very good for our health and an nutrition sources. However, the nutrients in milk can also be obtained from other sources like soy beans. Therefore, people who cant drink mil due to religion, culture and lactose intolerance and take milk subsititude in order to get a healthy diet.
2.  Xuechan wrote an interesting post about chocolate which is a very delicious food for human. However, chocolate is dangerous for dogs becuae it excite the central nervous system, relax muscles and heart of dogs, which makes dog a dangerous situation. Therefore, if you love  your puppy, dont feed them chocolate!

Computer radiation and health

The showup of interenet and personal computer make a great impact on development of science and of personal life-styles. Nowadays, computer is a very important part of our lives. Teachen uses copmuter is give a lecture, student use computer to study, company staff use computer to make reports and scheme. The social media like twitter, facebook and linkin are used very ofen.  Also ,people can watch movies and play video games on computer as part of their daily entertainment. More and more people sit at compter screens for long times everyday. Will it affect people's health?

Computer radiation is a common topic recently. Many people think that it is very scary, However, computer radiation is dont same a the real nuclear radiation. nuclear radiation is caused by radioactive element which keeps disintegration and gives out α, β and γ ray. There rays are very high in energy. But in our lives, natural radiation is every where, tririum in the water we drink and C14in the food we eat. It will not harm our health unless you get a tons of rays.

AS natural radiation, computer radiation is a kind of electromagntic radiation, which is everywhere in our lives. This radiation is mainly from monitors. Old monitors may generate ultraviolet ray. But, the LCD monitor will not be a problem. LCD monitors generate rays mainly from the tubes in the back, which is the same as sitting in front of a light tube.
Therefore, Computer is not really radioactive and dangerous. People feel uncomfortable by siting at computer screen because of tired and long time siting. In conclusion, computer is not dangerous and it helps  the development of our civilization
Here is Yuhan is post about milk which gives us an idea should we really drink milk.

wikipedia

This week 'ales204 assignment is to write a stub on Wikipedia. I am so excited about that. I used to search a lot of information on Wikipedia and i thought  it is a very professional and scientific website. However, today i am told that i can write my own Wikipedia article as a normal university student, though it is a update os a stub.
As one of the most convenient searching tools on the internet. Wikipedia plays a very important role  in our daily lives. It just take you about 2 minutes to turn on your laptop or cellphone to search info no-matter what aspect it is. History, biology, chemistry or arts. Children can also study basic science on it, which helps  education.

The stub i wrote is cAMP receptor protein  which helps DNA expression by regulate the mRNA in bacterial. It is a concept that i learn from the biology class. The professor just gave a introductory talk about it and did not go in depth. In order to write the stub. I did lots of researches and found tons of information. Therefore, I understand more about this protein now by studying it.
Overall, Wikipedia is an excellent tool which helps us a lot. But Wikipedia is not always accurate and perfect. There might be some error or mistakes on each stubs. So you can use it for studying, but you cannot completely depends on it. Here is the link of my stub cAMP receptor protein.     My friend Alex also did a good job on High-quality feed block.

facebook

This week, we are asked to create a facebook page. As a business card, the page get all important information about myself. It looks like a online resume. People who are professional  in my study, can easily find me and communicate with me.
Just like a online journal, I can write articles about my study with is about food technology and share my opinion  with other people. The managers of food industry can also view my page and I can can a chance to talk with them. That will be very helpful for my career and i may get a chance to be employed.
If I get a job, I can also use facebook as a tool to share opinion with my workmates to make contribution to the company.
On of my classmates also get a nice view: http://esbrown2012.blogspot.com/

Introduction

Greeting all! My name is Rui Li. Im a third year Food Science and Technology student. I like movies and video game as most of students.

Im an international student from China. As an international student, I strongly realize that communication is very important in both our daily lives and professions. Better communication can make people to get along well with their family members and friends. In my field of study, communication is also a necessary skill for food industry. An food engineer must demonstrate his or her design to make workers to understand the equipment. Also communication is required to share opinion  and discuss with other fellows in order to make Innovation.
